Healing Labyrinth Ceremony for Pain Management

In late July, it was my pleasure to facilitate a presentation on a Healing Labyrinth Ceremony for a local Pain Management support group at Essentia Health in Duluth, Minnesota. Having been, myself, a participant and graduate of this Pain Management Program, it was an honor and joy to “give back” to this wonderful program by presenting a Healing Labyrinth Ceremony to the Pain Management Support Group members who meet twice a month.  Jan Murphy, a chaplain with Essentia Health also put together a wonderful PowerPoint presentation of this ceremony and presented it to the Pain Management Program staff at a recent meeting, and the response was incredibly positive!

I thought I’d share the presentation as a PDF for you here:

During the presentation, the song, “Welcome to this Circle” by Trish and Richard Bruxvoort Colligan (from their “Unfolding” CD) was played. I’ll include the song on YouTube for you to have a listen while you read the presentation!

Many hospitals and clinics are beginning to use labyrinths as a part of a holistic model of patient care – assisting in treating the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. Below is a short video from The Labyrinth Society talking about their use. Enjoy!

And how did the presentation with the Pain Management Staff go? Here are some great comments that were received:

“Wonderful ceremony; how much does she charge for a ritual ceremony?”
“That was really something.”
“It’s great to see one of our former patients do such good work.”
“Great presentation.”
“Love the rose blessing.”
“What a beautiful labyrinth.”
“Oh, isn’t that cool that Genevieve is standing in the middle of the labyrinth with her arms up? What a great picture!”
“Wow, and Genevieve was one of our patients! She’s amazing.”
“Isn’t that so true, the pictures depict transformation from pain into joy.”
“How can we contact Genevieve?”

I want to thank Jan Murphy, my fellow classmates, and all of the staff at Essentia Health’s Pain Management Program who walk alongside others in their journeys and struggles from pain to greater wellness.
